1996-1997 Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls Signed Team-Issued NBA Finals Home Jersey
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,998
Addendum: Please Note this piece was signed by Jordan under the auspices of Upper Deck and bears an Upper Deck hologram label affixed to the front numeral "3." It is also accompanied by the corresponding Upper Deck COA.
Chicago Bulls home jersey issued to Michael Jordan for use in the 1997 NBA Finals. The white mesh jersey is lettered "Bulls" on the front and features the number "23" on the front and reverse. "Jordan" is lettered on the reverse directly above the number. All letters and numerals have been appliquèd in red on black tackle twill. A "Champion 46" label and a Champion exclusivity label (reading in part, "96/97 Designed and Tailored Exclusively for Chicago Bulls - Body Length +3") are each located on the left front tail. The NBA logo is embroidered in gold on the upper left breast, while a special NBA Finals patch appears on the upper right breast. Jordan has signed the jersey in black marker (grading "8/9") on the front. It must be noted that the Jordan signature featured here is one of the largest we have ever seen on a jersey and measures an incredible twelve inches in total length. The jersey is all original, with no alterations, and displays moderate wear. Despite the proper tagging, MEARS notes in its accompanying letter that based upon a photo analysis, it does not appear that Michael Jordan wore this very jersey in the NBA finals. Specifically, MEARS mentions a slight discrepancy in the placement of the name on the reverse and the stitching on the NBA Finals patch. As a result, this appears to be a jersey issued to Jordan for the 1997 Finals, but one that was probably never worn. Jordan, once again, was at his very best in the 1997 NBA Finals. Jordan led the Bulls to a six-game victory over the Utah Jazz and for the fifth time in as many Finals appearances, he was also named the series MVP. Graded A5 by MEARS (no post-1987 jersey can achieve a higher grade than A5 without additional provenance). This is one of only two Michael Jordan 1996-1997 Chicago Bulls NBA Finals jerseys listed in the MEARS census, and the only home example (the other, a road jersey, is also graded A5). LOAs from Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,998
