1909-1911 E90-1 American Caramel Card Collection Including Ty Cobb (61)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,406

Collection of fifty different (plus ten duplicates) E90-1 American Caramel cards including thirteen Hall of Famers, highlighted by Ty Cobb and Christy Mathewson. These have been consigned by the family of an old-time collector who was active decades ago. The E90-1 set is the most widely collected of all 1910-era caramel issues. This is a mixed-grade collection, with condition ranging from Poor to Vg-Ex. We have selected six cards to be graded by SGC. Highlights: two Baker (GOOD 30 and Pr), Bender (Pr), Chance (Pr), Cobb (POOR 10; Vg appearance from the front, downgraded due to paper loss on the back), two Collins (VG 40 and Pr), Jennings (Vg), Joss - port. (GOOD 30), Keeler-port. (trimmed, otherwise Pr), Lajoie (VG 40), Mathewson (VG 40), and Wallace (Gd). The balance of the cards in this collection grade as follows: ten cards are Vg-Ex, eleven are Vg, and twenty-six are lesser (mostly Poor). This collection has an impressive concentration of key Hall of Famers and represents a very substantial start to collecting one of the era's most difficult-to-complete sets. Overall very consistent and reasonably uniform in grade, with many cards having far superior eye-appeal than their technically accurate grades. Also included is an E90-2 American Caramel sample card of Pittsburgh Pirates' pitcher Sam Leever (Pr). Total 61 cards (60 E90-1 cards and one E90-2). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $4,406
