1973-1975 Carl Yastrzemski Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,763
Carl Yastrzemski H&B signature model "W215" bat dating from the 1973-1975 labeling period. Graded A9 by MEARS, only one graded at this level, with just one graded higher (A10). The bat is not cracked and displays phenomenal use including numerous ball marks, deeply embedded stitch marks, rack and cleat marks, and grain swelling. Yastrzemski's uniform number ("8") is written on the knob in vintage black marker as is the number "4" (probably referencing the length of the bat) and the word "Game" (possibly designating this bat as a gamer, as opposed to one used in batting practice). Also written on the knob in pencil is the bat's original weight "33 1/2." H&B factory records indicate that Yastrzemski ordered model "W215" bats each season between the years 1973 and 1975. A three-time American League batting champion and MVP Award winner, Yastrzemski is one of only a few players in history to amass over 400 home runs and 3,000 hits. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1989. Length: 34 inches. Weight: 32.8 ounces. Graded A9 by MEARS (5 point base grade, plus 3 points for use and 1 point for the uniform number on the knob). This one of eleven Carl Yastzemski bats listed in the MEARS census and one of only eight pre-1980 examples. This bat has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticator Troy Kinunen. LOAs from Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,763
