1973-1975 Boog Powell Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $823
Boog Powell H&B signature model "O16" bat dating from the 1973-1975 labeling period. The bat displays heavy use along its entire length including ball marks, deeply embedded stitch marks, rack and cleat marks, pine tar, and an approximate three-inch crack in the handle that has been repaired with glue. The faint outline of where tape was once applied to the handle is still visible. H&B factory records indicate that Powell ordered model "O16" bats each season between the years 1973 and 1975. Powell played fourteen seasons with Baltimore (1961-1974), during which time he helped lead the Orioles to four pennants and two World Championships. He later played with the Indians (1975-1976) and Dodgers (1977). Few hitters were as feared as Boog Powell, and with good reason. One of the great sluggers of his era, Powell finished his career with 339 home runs, 1,187 RBI, and a .266 lifetime average. Length: 34.875 inches. Weight: 36.1 ounces. Graded A7.5 by MEARS (5 point base grade, plus 3 points for use but minus a half point for the crack in the handle). This is one of only five Boog Powell bats listed in the MEARS census. This bat has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticator Troy Kinunen. LOAs from Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $823
