1909 E95 Philadelphia Caramel Eddie Plank
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,763
Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. E95 Philadelphia Caramel of Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank of the Philadelphia Athletics. This is an exceptional mid-grade example of one of Plank's most classic cards, downgraded from Ex due only to an extremely tiny border crease in the upper right corner. Plank is one of the keys to this scarce caramel-card set issued in 1909 by the Philadelphia Caramel Co. of Camden, New Jersey. This example of Plank has a far superior appearance than suggested by its technically accurate mid-grade. The card is bright and crisp, with vibrant colors, even wear to the corners, a single tiny crease (as previously noted) in the upper right corner, and a boldly printed checklist for the set on the back. This card is all the more noteworthy as the image on this card is the same as that used to produce the rare Plank card in the T206 White Border series. This is an extremely attractive medium-grade example of one of Plank's most striking cards. The equivalent SMR value is $700. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,763
