Collection of 49 Whitey Ford Signed 1990 Limited-Edition Lithographs (Ex-Whitey Ford Collection)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $823

This collection of forty-nine Whitey Ford signed limited-edition lithographs originates directly from the personal collection of the legendary "Chairman of the Board," Whitey Ford. The prints, which measure 11 x 15 inches, were produced by the Marriott Hotel Co. in 1990 as part of a fully licensed series of art prints commemorating the 1953 Topps baseball-card set. A total of 2,000 were issued, each individually numbered by hand in the lower left corner. Ford received these lithographs from Marriott as part of his compensation for signing the limited-edition run for them. This collection of signed lithographs was sold by Ford in 2008 at a special, highly publicized live auction featuring Ford's personal collection that was held in conjunction with the Major League All-Star Game. Our consignor purchased them directly from that sale as a collection of fifty, pulled one out to keep for himself, and this offering represents the balance of the lot. Ford has signed each of prints on his image (which was used to create his 1953 Topps card). One of the prints is inscribed "Whitey Ford #16 HOF '74" in blue Sharpie (Vg-Ex, with a small border tear and minor creases). All of the other forty-eight prints are inscribed "Ed 'Whitey' Ford #16" in black Sharpie (Nr-Mt). Each of the inscriptions has been flawlessly executed and grades "10." Limitation numbers included here are 1004/2000 through 1050/2000, 1149/2000, and 1185/2000. Each print is accompanied by an individual "Ford Auction" COA. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $823
