Willie "Puddin' Head" Jones Single-Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $940
Rawlings "Official League" ball signed by former Major League third baseman Willie Jones, a key member of the famed 1950 Philadelphia Phillies "Whiz Kids," and a very rare single-signed ball. Jones' signature, which has been scripted in blue ink on a side panel, grades "9." Jones was a standout with the Phillies for thirteen seasons (1947-1959) and in 1950 helped lead the Phillies to their first pennant in thirty-five years. Jones was reliable both in the field and at the plate. He led the National League in fielding percentage at his position for five seasons and averaged 18 home runs and 75 RBI between the years 1949 and 1956. Although not a Hall of Famer, his signature alone on a ball is highly prized by collectors today. It is also quite rare due to the fact that Jones passed away in 1983 at the age of fifty-eight. The ball displays moderate age toning and a minor blemish on the panel opposite Jones' signature. Vg-Ex. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $940
