1959 New York Yankees Team-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $588
Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty-three members of the 1959 New York Yankees: Stengel (Mgr., sweet spot, clubhouse signature), Mantle, Berra, Slaughter, Coates, Blanchard, Houk (coach), Turner (coach), Kubek, Brickell, Duren, Blaylock, Siebern, McDougald, Turley, Bauer, Larsen, Richardson, Shantz, Terry, Maas, Crosetti (coach), and Ditmar. The number "17" is written in blue ink on a side panel. Hall of Famer Enos Slaughter wore number "17" in 1959 and this ball most likely originates from his estate (players' uniform numbers were commonly written on balls, for inventory purposes, by clubhouse attendants when team balls were lined up for signing for fellow players, other members of the Yankees organization, and special dignitaries). The signatures range in grade from "8" to "10," averaging "9." All of the manufacturer's stampings are light, but legible. In Excellent condition, with a few tiny areas of light discoloration. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $588
