1969 New York Mets World Champions Team-Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,175
Official National League (Giles) ball signed in blue ink by the following thirty members of the World Champion New York Mets: Hodges (Mgr., sweet spot), Seaver, Ryan, Berra (coach), Agee, McGraw, Pfeil, Boswell, Kranepool, Jones, Garrett, Koonce, Gaspar, Clendenon, DiLauro, Cardwell, Pignatano (coach), Shamsky, Swoboda, Martin, Koosman, Harrelson, Gentry, Weis, Grote, Charles, McAndrew, Dyer, Taylor, and Yost (coach). The printed notation "World Series 1969" (the year 1969 is written twice) appears on the sweet spot. Signatures range from "4" to "9," averaging "6/7." This is an outstanding 1969 Mets team-signed ball that features every key member of the team and nearly all of the reserves. Most significant is the presence of Manager Gil Hodges' signature on the ball. 1969 New York Mets team-signed balls featuring authentic Gil Hodges signatures are the exception rather than the rule, making this an especially highly prized example dating from the most memorable season in franchise history. Most 1969 Mets team balls are actually reunion balls, dating from decades after the 1969 season, and of course not including Hodges. This is a rare and ideal original dating from 1969. The ball has been coated with a very light layer of protective shellac and is in Excellent to Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,175
