Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,819
Collection of two extraordinary signed items dating to the Milwaukee’s Braves 1957 World Championship season: a 1957 Braves yearbook signed on the interior by nearly every team member and a 1957 Braves World Series program signed both on the cover by twenty-three members of the New York Yankees and on the interior by twenty-seven members of the Milwaukee Braves. 1) 1957 Milwaukee Braves Yearbook. The forty-eight page yearbook features photos and biographies of each team member and has been signed on the interior in blue ink by the following thirty-two team members: Spahn, Aaron, Mathews, P. Waner (hitting coach), Haney (Mgr.), Burdette, Conley, Buhl, Crone, Phillips, E. Johnson, Trowbridge, Jolly, Murff, Crandall, Rice, Sawatski (twice), Logan, Adcock, O’Connell, Mantilla, Torre, Cole, Malkmus, Thomson, Bruton, Pafko, Tanner, Pizarro, Root (coach), Riddle (coach), and Ryan (coach). Also included in the yearbook are the signatures of seven team executives (Joe Cairnes, John Quinn, Frank Leary, John Mullen, Don Davidson, Al Oliver, and Earl Yerxa), the equipment manager (Joe Taylor), the trainer (Robert Feron), and the club’s radio announcer (Earl Gillespie). Each of the players has signed the yearbook either upon or alongside his respective photo with the exception of Waner and Cole. All of the signatures are boldly penned and grade “10.” The yearbook (8.5 x 11 inches) displays a date stamp on the cover, “Apr 2 1954” (meaning unknown), as well as a few minor ink notations throughout. In Very Good condition. 2) 1957 Milwaukee Braves World Series Program. The cover of this forty-page program features the blue-ink signatures of the following twenty-three members of the New York Yankees: Mantle, Berra, Ford, Slaughter, Keller (coach), McDougald, Lumpe, Skowron, Turley, Carey, Larsen, Richardson, Sturdivant, Coleman, Byrne, Simpson, Grim, Howard, Kucks, Cicotte, Kubek, Bauer, and Shantz. The interior pages bear the blue-ink signatures of the following twenty-seven members of the Milwaukee Braves (all of which are scripted either atop or alongside the player’s respective photo): Aaron, Mathews, Spahn, Haney (Mgr.), Riddle (coach), Buhl, Burdette, Conley, McMahon, Phillips, Trowbridge, Johnson, Pizarro, Crandall, Rice, Sawatski, Bruton, Covington, Hazle, Pafko, Adcock, Logan, Schoendienst, Torre, Roach, Mantilla, and Lange (batting practice pitcher). All of the signatures grade “10” with the exception of Howard (“7”). The program (8.25 x 11 inches) has a very light vertical centerfold, a name (probably the original owner) written in blue ink in the upper right corner on the front cover, and has not been scored. Bright, clean, and ideal for display. In Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,819
