Roger Maris 61st Home Run Collection with Signed Photo and Ticket Stub

Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $1,410.00

In 1961 Roger Maris gained immortality by breaking Babe Ruth's long-standing single-season home run record on the final day of the season. This collection commemorates that historic feat and is comprised of a Roger Maris signed photo, a New York Yankees ticket stub from the record-breaking game, a ball signed by Boston Red Sox pitcher Tracy Stallard (who gave up Maris' 61st home run), and, amazingly, a ball signed by Sal Durante (the man who caught Maris' 61st home run). The black-and-white photo (3 x 5 inches) pictures Maris at the plate and has been signed in blue ink (grading "10") atop his image. The photo is individually matted and has been mounted in a framed display together with the ticket stub (1.5 x 3 inches, Ex), which is dated October 1, 1961, and two recent-issue baseball cards of Maris. Total dimensions: 21 x 9 inches. Stallard has penned his name in black ink (grading "8") upon the sweet spot of an official American League (Budig) ball. Below his signature he has added the inscription "#61 to Roger Maris - 10/1/61." The ball displays scattered light toning, and is otherwise Nr-Mt. Durante has signed his name in blue ink ("10") across the sweet spot of an official American League (Budig) ball, along with the additional notation "Caught Maris' 61st H.R." Nr-Mt. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total: four items (photo and ticket stub in framed display, and two balls). Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,410.00
