Jackie Robinson Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $1,175.00
Official National League (Giles) ball signed by Jackie Robinson and Luis Olmo. Robinson’s signature, penned in blue ink, sits alone on a side panel and grades “7/8.” Olmo’s signature, scripted in blue ink on the opposite side panel, grades “7.” Ideally, the position of the signatures allows for the ball to be displayed as a Robinson single. We will never know the exact circumstances of the signing of this ball, but Robinson and Olmo are a particularly interesting combination on a ball. Luis Francisco Rodríguez Olmo was one of the game's earliest Puerto Rican ballplayers, thus both Robinson and Olmo were truly pioneers as minorities in Major League Baseball. Robinson and Olmo only played together with the Dodgers in 1949, but Giles did not become League president until 1951. Therefore, the ball was signed by the pair sometime after Olmo left the Dodgers. When properly displayed, this ball is indistinguishable from a single-signed Jackie Robinson ball and would make a fine addition to any substantial Hall of Fame signed-ball collection. The ball is lightly soiled and is in Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
