1956 Abbott and Costello Signed "Who's On First?" Record Album
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $3,818.75
Abbott and Costello will forever hold a special place in the hearts and minds of all baseball fans by virtue of their classic comedy routine “Who’s on First?” Offered here is an extremely rare signed vintage 1956 RCA Victor 78-rpm recording of their famous routine. The album has been signed by both Bud and Lou on the record’s label. Each comedian has signed the label in black ink (grading “9/10”). The vintage black-ink salutation “To Bobby” appears below their signatures. This particular record was apparently specially produced for the Baseball Hall of Fame, as noted by the printing on the label which reads “Abbott and Costello’s ‘Who’ on First?’ – Presented to National Baseball Hall of Fame Museum – Cooperstown, N. Y. – 1956.” Lou Costello died in 1959, so there was only a very short window for other examples of this 1956 album to possibly be signed. We have never seen or heard of another example of this extremely rare signed record. This is an extraordinary Abbott and Costello "Who's On First?" signed piece, one that was probably presented as a gift personally by the comedy duo, and one that would make a significant and unique addition to many different types of advanced collections (baseball, Hollywood, comedy, popular culture, etc.). The record is in Excellent condition and comes with its original paper sleeve (Vg). Accompanied by a non-vintage photo (8.5 x 11 inches) of Abbott and Costello posing at the Polo Grounds in 1951 and an unopened package of 1998 Abbott and Costello collectible figures (manufactured by Exclusive Toy Products, Inc.), both ideal for display with the signed record album. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,818.75
