1955 Brooklyn Dodgers Near-Complete Signature Collection in Framed Display with Robinson
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $1,762.50
This visually stunning 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers framed display is comprised of thirty-six cut signatures, including thirty-one of the thirty-two players who appeared on the Dodgers 1955 roster, as well as manager Walt Alston, coaches Billy Herman, Joe Becker, and Jake Pitler, and longtime Dodgers announcer Vin Scully. The signatures of both Campanella and Hodges featured in this piece are classic secretarial examples from the era and are included simply for aesthetic appeal. 1955 was the most memorable season in Dodgers franchise history as the club captured their first and only World Championship while playing in Brooklyn. This spectacular piece pays homage to that magical year. A color team photo (16 x 12 inches) of the Dodgers is mounted in the center, surrounded by the cut signatures of thirty-six team members: Robinson, Campanella (secretarial), Hodges (secretarial), Snider, Reese, Gilliam, Furillo, Amoros, Hoak, Zimmer, Walker, Shuba, Kellert, Howell, Moryn, Borkowski, Newcombe, Labine, Erskine, Loes, Podres, Bessent, Spooner, Meyer, Craig, Roebuck, Koufax, Black, Templeton, Huges, Lasorda, Alston (Mgr.), Herman (coach), Becker (coach), Pitler (coach), and Scully (announcer). All of the signatures have been penned (in a variety of inks) on an unlined index card or sheet, with the exception of Loes (on a 1955 Bowman baseball card). The matting windows for the signatures are all fairly uniform in size, measuring approximately 4 x 1.5 inches, and each of the signatures is boldy penned, averaging "9/10." This is an outstanding 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers signature collection that is missing only those of Bert Hamric (he appeared in only two games), Campanella, and Hodges for completion. It should be noted that twenty-one of the individuals represented here are now deceased; therefore, any collector wishing to duplicate this piece would have to invest a great deal of time and money in acquiring many of these signature examples. This is an outstanding collection presented in an most extraordinary and unique museum-caliber display. Total dimensions: 33 x 41 inches. Please Note: Due to the size and/or weight of this lot, shipping costs (depending on where it is sent and its method of shipping) may be substantial. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,762.50
