1948 The Babe Ruth Story Signed by Babe Ruth
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $6,462.50
Hardcover first edition of The Babe Ruth Story by Babe Ruth as told to Bob Considine (E. P. Dutton & Co., New York, 1948), signed by Ruth on the front flyleaf. Ruth’s signature has been flawlessly scripted in blue fountain pen and grades “10.” The Babe Ruth Story was published just months prior to Ruth's death, a time when his failing health precluded him from honoring many of the autograph requests he normally received. Thus, signed copies of this book are not only rare but also represent one of the most important and final items ever penned by the legendary "Sultan of Swat." For that reason they are highly prized by collectors today. This is a particularly strong example of this signed classic, with the Ruth signature flawless, having been perfectly preserved in the interior. The offered book is complete with its original dust jacket. The front cover displays a small surface tear along the spine, otherwise the 250-page book (5.75 x 8.5 inches) is in Excellent to Mint condition. The dust jacket exhibits a number of moderate tears and is in Good to Very Good condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $6,462.50
