1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Bill Dahlen
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $3,231.25
Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. Highest-graded example! Stunning high-grade example of Bill Dahlen, star shortstop of the Chicago Colts, dressed in street clothes. Dahlen played twenty-one seasons (1891-1911) in the Major Leagues, and is widely regarded as one of baseball's greatest stars of his era that has not yet been elected to the Hall of Fame. Like many players in the 1890s, he had his best season in 1894 (the year after pitchers were moved back), with 15 HR, 107 RBIs, and a .357 batting average. This is a striking high-grade card. Perfectly clean, both front and back, with a flawless portrait image, just the slightest hint of edge and corner wear, centered slightly to the left border (approximately 40/60), and with a virtually flawless reverse. This is a magnificent high-grade street clothes style card of one of the great stars of the Mayo's set. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $3,231.25
