Roderick Wallace Signed Black-and-White Hall of Fame Postcard
Starting Bid - $400.00 , Sold For - $3,818.75
Black-and-white (Artvue) Hall of Fame postcard of Roderick ("Bobby") Wallace, signed in blue fountain pen (grading “9”) in the lower margin. Black-and-white Hall of Fame postcards were only issued between the years 1944 and 1963. Wallace was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1953 and passed away in 1960. This short window of opportunity for signing, combined with Roderick Wallace's relative obscurity and inaccessibility as a signer (though he would sign by mail - if you knew where to write, and had great interest, which few did) account for the rarity of his signature in general today, and in particular the rarity of his signed black-and-white postcards. The card displays light corner wear and a small area of surface paper loss on the reverse (the size of a stamp hinge and of no significance) resulting from the removal long ago of a small piece of tape relating to having once been mounted, otherwise in Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $3,818.75
