Circa 1940 Babe Ruth Single-Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $2,500.00 , Sold For - $14,100.00
Official American League (Harridge) ball signed by Babe Ruth across the sweet spot. Ruth’s signature has been boldly scripted in blue fountain pen and grades a strong “9/10.” This is an outstanding Babe Ruth single-signed ball. Based upon the labeling period, this ball was signed by Ruth sometime between the years 1940 and 1945. Despite the fact that Ruth signed thousands of balls during the course of his lifetime, the majority of the signatures on those balls normally exhibit some form of deterioration or fading due to age, sunlight, and any other number of diminishing factors. This ball is a gorgeous exception and the signature displays extremely strongly, much as it did when Ruth signed it some sixty-five years ago. The ball has a small area of light stain that touches upon the “h” in “Ruth” and some very light wear that suggests it may have been a game ball. The manufacturer’s stampings are light, but legible. Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000. SOLD FOR $14,100.00
