1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug George Haddock - Philadelphia
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $940.00
Graded EX 60 by SGC. Pitcher George Haddock with "Philadelphia" team name on shirt. Haddock's card was issued two ways: one with the team name "Philadelphia" on his shirt and the other identifying him but with no team on his shirt. This is the first card of Haddock issued by Mayo, with "Philadelphia" on his shirt. Haddock left Philadelphia for Washington in the middle of the 1894 season before retiring from the majors. The two variations of Haddock's card appear to verify that the Mayo set was issued over a two-year period (1894 and 1895) as opposed to just a single year. Haddock was a star pitcher in the early 1890s. His thirty-four victories led the Boston Red Stockings to the National League pennant in 1891. Light wear to the condition-sensitive edges and corners, sharp image, and centered slightly to the top left. The reverse is perfectly clean. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $940.00
