Babe Ruth "Milestone Home Run" Signature Display
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $3,818.75
Framed wall display featuring a flawless signature example of Babe Ruth decoratively presented together with signatures of Jack Warhop, the pitcher who gave up Ruth's first Major League home run in 1915, and Tom Zachary, the pitcher who served up Ruth's then record-breaking sixtieth home run in 1927. Ruth's signature, which is boldly scripted in blue fountain pen (grading "9/10"), is displayed upon an ideal venue: his biography page taken from the famous 1933 Who's Who in Baseball book. The large-format page, measuring 8.5 x 10.5 inches, features a sepia portrait image of Ruth, along with a short biography and his lifetime statistics. Ruth has signed the page below his photo. Matted directly below the page, side by side, are 3 x 5-inch unlined index cards featuring the respective blue-ink signatures of Jack Warhop ("9/10") and Tom Zachary ("8/9"). The book page displays minor foxing and is otherwise in apparent Excellent to Mint condition. Each of the signed index cards is housed in a glassine envelope (with written notations on the front of each envelope identifying each pitcher and his relationship to Ruth) and is in apparent Excellent condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 16 x 19.5 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,818.75
