Outstanding Babe Ruth Single-Signed Baseball

Starting Bid - $5,000.00 , Sold For - $11,750.00

Official American League (Harridge) ball signed by Babe Ruth in black fountain pen across the sweet spot. This is a magnificent Babe Ruth single-signed ball. Ruth’s signature is perfectly centered and grades a solid “9.” This ball dates from the 1946-1959 manufacturing period, but its date of signing can be narrowed to the three-year period 1946-1948 due to the fact that Ruth passed away in August 1948. We have known of this ball for well over twenty years; it had been a centerpiece display in an extremely advanced collection (where it had resided for many additional years before). We have always been particularly partial to Ruth balls about which we personally know the history and provenance going back decades. The ball is clean and the signature is virtually flawless, qualities that both define an ideal-for-display Ruth single-signed ball and made this example a prize display in a museum-caliber collection for decades. The collection, which once included many of baseball collecting's greatest and most valuable items, has been sold over the years, but this is one of the few special items that was held back as a keepsake. This high-quality Ruth ball would be a worthy addition and highlight in any collection. Despite the fact that Ruth signed many baseballs in his lifetime, few approach the quality of this example. The ball exhibits a few tiny areas of light discoloration, an insignificant surface chip/scuff, and the manufacturer’s labels are light, but legible. Overall in about Excellent condition but with an even stronger appearance and outstanding display value. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $11,750.00
