1935 All-Star Game Team-Signed Baseball including Lou Gehrig with Program

Starting Bid - $800.00 , Sold For - $1,645.00

1935 All Star Game team-signed baseball featuring the American League team, highlighted by the signature of Lou Gehrig. The official National League (Frick) ball features the black fountain-pen signatures of the following nineteen team members: Lou Gehrig (“3”), Jimmie Foxx (twice), Rollie Hemsley, Schoolboy Rowe (sweet spot), Tommy Bridges, Bob Johnson, Joe Cronin, Ben Chapman, Lefty Grove, Al Simmons, Charlie Gehringer, Mel Harder, Lefty Gomez, Ossie Bleuge, Sam West, Joe Vosmik, Doc Cramer, and Del Baker (coach). While the signatures are somewhat light, all are clearly legible and range in grade between “3” and “5.” This is a remarkably complete team ball. The only American League players not included here are Mickey Cochrane, Rick Ferrell, and Buddy Myer, all of whom did not play in the game. (Earl Averill was elected to play but did not appear due to injury. Doc Cramer replaced him on the roster.) The 1935 All-Star Game, held on July 8th at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium, was only the third “midsummer classic” ever held. The American League continued its winning ways in the annual contest by defeating the National League 4-1. Jimmie Foxx was the game’s hitting star, with a home run and three RBI, while Lefty Gomez and Mel Harder combined to limit the National League to just four hits. All of the manufacturer’s labels are bright and clearly legible, and the ball is in Excellent to Mint condition overall. Included with the ball, and perfect for display with it, is a complete thirty-two page program from the game (8 x 10.5 inches, not scored, Vg, with a tiny ink notation on the front cover, and a few stray pencil notations on the last page, and interior and exterior back cover). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total: 2 items. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $1,645.00
