1930 Philadelphia Athletics World Champions Team-Signed Ball with Babe Ruth
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,643.75
This official American League (Barnard) ball bears not only the signatures of twenty-one members of the 1930 World Champion Philadelphia Athletics, but also that of Babe Ruth. Ruth’s signature, penned in blue fountain pen, sits upon the ball label and grades “5/6.” Babe Ruth attended the 1930 World Series and it is very likely that he signed this ball at the Series. All of the A's team signatures have been scripted in black fountain pen: Mack, Foxx (extremely faint), Grove (sweet spot), Collins (coach), Cochrane, Simmons, Earnshaw, Perkins, Haas, Walberg, Shores, Gleason (coach), Schang, Miller, Quinn (sweet spot), Bishop, Boley, and four others (faded, illegible). The erroneous year notation, “1929,” appears on a side in black ink (We know this is a 1930 team ball because Wally Schang did not join the A's club until 1930). Signatures range from “1” to “6,” averaging “3/4.” The ball is lightly soiled and displays a few small abrasions. All of the manufacturer’s labels are legible. In Very Good condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,643.75
