1926 Charles Comiskey TLS to Charles Stoneham on White Sox Stationery

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,057.50

One-page letter, dated May 3, 1926, signed by Charles Comiskey. The letter, typed on official Chicago White Sox embossed stationery, is addressed to Charles Stoneham, owner of the New York Giants, and reads in part: “My son, Louis, and Harry Grabiner, advised they had a very pleasant visit with you and secured the additional information regarding the boxing situation. I was very sorry to learn that John McGraw was not feeling well, but hope he has entirely recovered his good health by this time. I have noted with pleasure the success your club is having and sincerely hope it will continue. Trusting I will be able to reciprocate for the information advanced and with kindest regards and best wishes, I am – Very truly yours, Chas. A. Comiskey [signed].” Comiskey’s signature has been scripted in black fountain pen and grades “10.” Comiskey signed letters are actually far rarer than one might think: in recent years it has been determined that many of the letters previously thought signed by Comiskey were instead signed by team secretary Harry Grabiner (who is mentioned in the letter). This example, of course, features a true version of his signature and is also desirable for its baseball content. The letter (8.5 x 11 inches) displays two horizontal folds and a few minor creases in the upper left corner. Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,057.50
