Circa 1927 New York Yankees Team-Signed Baseball with Ruth, Gehrig, Huggins, and Ruppert!
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $4,700.00
Official American League (Johnson) ball signed in black fountain pen by ten members of the 1927 World Champion New York Yankees plus team owner Jacob Ruppert and Hall of Fame umpire Billy Evans. The signatures featured here are those of Babe Ruth (sweet spot, “6”), Lou Gehrig (“6”), Miller Huggins, Tony Lazzeri, Earle Combs, Bennie Bengough, Mark Koenig, Dutch Reuther, Pat Collins, Bob Meusel, Jacob Ruppert, and Billy Evans. Jacob Ruppert’s signature is seldom, if ever, found on a Yankees team ball (in fact, we're not sure if we've ever seen one) and its presence here, along with the signature of manager Miller Huggins (also rare), truly distinguishes this as a very significant example dating from the club’s first great dynasty. The signatures are all fairly uniform in grade, averaging “6,” with the exception of Ruppert (“4,” partially obscured by an abrasion). The ball is darkly toned and displays some light abrasions, a few of which touch upon some of the signatures. Good to Very Good condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,700.00
