Circa 1920 Babe Ruth Single-Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $3,818.75
While all Babe Ruth single-signed balls are highly desirable, the offered example is further distinguished by the fact that it represents an extremely early example. Ruth has signed the official American League (Johnson) ball in black fountain pen across the sweet spot. Ruth’s signatures is somewhat light, but totally legible, and grades “5” overall. This ball, which features an early Ruth signature style with quotes around "Babe" (a practice he stopped in approximately 1927), dates from the 1910-1925 manufacturing period and was probably signed by Ruth sometime around 1920. The ball is a particularly strong and attractive example. All of the manufacturer’s stampings remain bold and legible, and the ball displays only light soiling and minor surface wear. Excellent condition overall. Early 1920s Ruth signed balls are particularly rare and, naturally, highly prized by collectors today. Most Ruth single-signed balls date from much later years, often after his playing career. This is a rarely seen early example, on an outstanding Reach American League ball, that won't break the bank, but has qualities that distinguish it as especially noteworthy. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,818.75
