Historic 1974 Hank Aaron Transfer Agreement
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,115.00
On November 2, 1974, the Atlanta Braves traded all-time home-run champion Hank Aaron to the Milwaukee Brewers, thus closing the greatest chapter in Braves franchise history, and sending Aaron to his original Major League home in Milwaukee for two final seasons where he hit his last twenty-two home runs. Offered here is the official paperwork that made that historic transaction a reality. The first document is a one-page “Uniform Agreement for the Assignment of a Player’s Contract to or by a Major League Club.” The legal agreement between the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers assigns the contract of “Henry Louis Aaron” to the Brewers in exchange for “the contract of David LaFrance May and a player to be named on or before January 1, 1975 or $25,000.00 in lieu thereof.” Eddie Robinson has signed the document in his capacity as General Manager of the Braves, as has Bud Selig, in his capacity as President of the Milwaukee Brewers. Both signatures grade “10” and the document (8.5 x 11 inches), which is printed on onionskin, is in Excellent condition. The transfer agreement is accompanied by Aaron’s one-page typed authorization of the trade which reads “To Whom it May Concern: This is to certify that the Atlanta Braves, Inc. of the National League has my permission to assign my contract to the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club of the American League. Dated this 2nd day of November, 1974." It is signed “Henry L. Aaron” in blue ink (grading “9”). Aaron’s consent is stapled to a cover sheet addressed to Eddie Robinson from Aaron’s attorney, Irving Kaler, that reads in part: “Dear Eddie: I am sending you herewith original and copy of authorization of Henry L. Aaron to assign his contract with the Atlanta Braves, Inc. to the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club.” Both the authorization and cover letter (8.5 x 11 inches) are typed on onionskin and are in Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,115.00
