1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Hugh Duffy
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $3,818.75
Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Impressive example of one of Hugh Duffy’s most striking and important cards. Sharp-looking Mayo's Cut Plug example with an outstanding, crisp image. Just a little corner rounding, very little border wear (primarily along the bottom), and no creases. Centered slightly to the left. The back has a tiny pinpoint chip of paper loss (of no consequence). This card was issued right around the time of Duffy's legendary .438 season in 1894, representing the highest single-season batting average by any player ever. For his career, Duffy hit .330 in 1,722 games, with 2,307 hits, 1,545 runs scored, and 103 home runs. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1945. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000.
