1954 Topps Complete Set (250)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $4,700.00
Addendum: In the printed catalog, card #250 is listed in the text description as being graded PSA EX-MT 6. This is an error. Card #250 is graded EX 5.
78% range from Ex to Ex-Mt (includes even some Nr/Mt cards), 22% Vg-Ex to Vg-Ex/Ex (most cards downgraded for honest corner wear. No creases). This 1954 Topps set was assembled one card at a time by a prominent and very dedicated condition-conscious collector in the 1970s and has not seen the light of day since. We have selected five cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: #1 Williams (PSA EX-MT 6), 10 Robinson (Ex-Mt), 13 Martin (Ex), 17 Rizzuto (70/30 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 20 Spahn (Vg-Ex), 30 Mathews (Vg/Vg-Ex), 32 Snider (70/30 L/R, otherwise Ex), 36 Wilhelm (Vg-Ex), 37 Ford (Vg-Ex/Ex), 45 Ashburn (PSA NM 7), 50 Berra (Vg-Ex), 70 Doby (Vg-Ex), 90 Mays (PSA VG-EX 4), 94 Banks (RC, Vg-Ex/Ex), 102 Hodges (Ex), 128 Aaron (RC, PSA EX-MT 6), 132 Lasorda (RC, Vg/Vg-Ex), 201 Kaline (RC, Vg-Ex), 239 Skowron (Vg-Ex/Ex), and 250 Williams (PSA EX 5). This is a very strong and extremely consistent complete set of this early 1950s classic, with tremendous eye appeal throughout. Technically the set falls into the "very strong medium" grade category, but has an overall presentation of a technically much more expensive and higher-grade set. In the "old days," when this set was assembled and put in the closet, they called a set in this condition "Mint." By today's standards it is not Mint, but it is a great-looking extremely high quality set. Early sets in this grade are especially desirable, representing the most solid and least volatile value in the world of vintage cards. The SMR value for just the four PSA-graded cards (not including the PSA 4 Mays and 245 ungraded cards) is $2,015. Total 250 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $4,700.00
