1953 Topps Complete Set Minus One (273 of 274)

Starting Bid - $2,500.00 , Sold For - $11,162.50

50% range from Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (averaging Nr/Mt), 30% Ex, 15% Vg-Ex, 5% Vg. This is a extremely high quality complete set of 1953 Topps (missing only #1 Robinson for completion), one of the most popular and classic of all baseball card sets. This is one of the freshest, most crisp, clean 1953 Topps sets we have ever offered. We are not sure that the condition composite above fully communicates exactly how strong the condition of this set is, simply because there is a percentage of slightly lesser grade cards (all still very attractive and strong cards). 80% of this set ranges from Ex to Nr/Mt-Mt, with half the set Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt. For 1953 Topps, this is remarkable! All the cards in this set are bright and crisp, with flawless colors, perfect gloss, and exceptional eye appeal, and are perfectly clean, both front and back. Even the lesser-graded cards are exceptionally attractive and exhibit bright colors and crisp focus. We have selected seven cards to be graded by SGC (one card #244 was already graded a PSA NM 7 when we received the set from the consignor). Keys: #10 Burgess SP (Ex-Mt), 27 Campanella (SGC Authentic), 37 Mathews (SGC NM/MT 88), 41 Slaughter (Vg/Vg-Ex), 43 McDougald SP (20/80 T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt), 54 Feller (Vg-Ex/Ex), 61 Wynn SP (Nr/Mt), 62 Irvin (Vg), 66 Minoso SP (Vg-Ex), 76 Reese (SGC EX/NM 80), 77 Mize (Vg), 78 Schoendienst SP (Vg-Ex/Ex), 81 Black SP (Ex-Mt), 82 Mantle (SGC EX 60, Bright and clean, with vibrant colors, perfect registration, even wear to the corners, and centered 45/55 L/R and 40/60 T/B), 86 Martin (Ex), 87 Lopat (Ex-Mt), 104 Berra (SGC NM+ 86), 109 Dark SP (Ex-Mt), 114 Rizzuto (Ex-Mt), 119 Sain SP (Ex/Ex-Mt), 138 Kell (30/70 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 147 Spahn (90/10 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 149 D. DiMaggio (Ex-Mt), 151 Wilhelm SP (Ex/Ex-Mt), 162 Kluszewski SP (Ex-Mt), 191 Kiner (Ex), 207 Ford (Vg-Ex/Ex), 220 Paige (SGC EX/NM 80), 228 Newhouser SP (70/30 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 244 Mays (PSA NM 7. Beautiful card, with flawless colors, perfect registration, four square corners, and centered slightly to the top right), 246 Face RC (Nr/Mt), 254 Roe (Vg), 258 Gilliam RC (SGC NM+ 86), 263 Podres RC (Ex-Mt), 264 Woodling (Ex-Mt), 265 Jensen SP (Nr/Mt), 273 Haddix RC (Ex/Ex-Mt), and 280 Bolling (Ex, last card in set). The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1953 Topps set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is an extraordinarily strong mid- to high-grade set, mostly high-grade, and far above average for this issue, with outstanding eye appeal across the board. Total 273 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $11,162.50
