1950 Bowman Near-Complete Set (249 out of 252 cards)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $5,875.00

75% range from Ex to Ex-Mt (includes some Nr/Mt), 25% Vg-Ex (includes a few slightly lesser). We have selected ten cards to be graded and encapsulated by PSA. We personally assembled this set (less three cards) from an enormous 1948 to 1952 Bowman original-owner collection which included 567 assorted 1950 Bowmans. We chose the best example of each card to include in the set and miraculously every card in the series was included with exception of three commons (#147, 189, and 250). This is a beautiful set. Keys: #1 Parnell RC (Vg-Ex), 3 DiMaggio (Ex), 6 Feller (PSA EX 5), 8 Kell (Vg-Ex/Ex), 11 Rizzuto (Vg), 19 Spahn (Ex/Ex-Mt), 21 Reese (Vg-Ex), 22 Robinson (PSA VG-EX 4), 23 Newcombe RC (30/70 T/B, otherwise Ex), 28 Thomson (70/30 T/B, otherwise Ex), 32 Roberts (Vg/Vg-Ex), 33 Kiner (Ex-Mt), 35 Slaughter (70/30 T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt), 37 Appling (Ex-Mt), 39 Doby (Ex-Mt), 40 Lemon (Ex-Mt), 43 Doerr (Ex), 46 Berra (PSA NM 7), 58 Furillo (70/30 L/R, otherwise Ex), 59 Branca (Vg), 62 Kluszewski (PSA NM 7), 71 Schoendienst (PSA NM 7), 75 Campanella (PSA NM 7), 77 Snider (PSA EX-MT 6), 84 Ashburn (PSA NM 7), 94 Boudreau (Ex/Ex-Mt), 98 Williams (PSA NM 7), 112 Hodges (Vg-Ex/Ex), 139 Mize (PSA NM 7), 148 Wynn (Vg-Ex), 217 Stengel (70/30 T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt), 219 Bauer (Nr/Mt), 220 Durocher (print marks, otherwise Ex-Mt), and 252 DeMars (Vg-Ex/Ex). The 1950 Bowman set is often overlooked by collectors simply because it does not include a Mantle or Mays rookie, but this was a landmark set in its day, being the first postwar baseball issue to feature full-color artwork instead of photographs. We rarely have the opportunity to offer a complete set of 1950 Bowman and over the years have consistently found it to be among the most elusive sets of the era. This is a very attractive medium-to-high grade complete set minus three cards of this classic early Bowman issue. The SMR value for just nine PSA graded cards (not including the VG-EX 4 Jackie Robinson and the 239 raw cards) is $2,705. Total 249 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $5,875.00
