1935 Dizzy and Daffy Dean Rice-Stix Card Set Graded PSA 8 and Rare Promo Pen in Framed Display
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $7,050.00
Offered here is the ultimate Dizzy and Paul Dean Rice-Stix collection, both in terms of condition and presentation. Included is the finest set of 1935 Rice-Stix cards we have ever seen, with both cards in the set, featuring Dizzy and Daffy Dean, graded PSA 8 NM-MT, and a Near Mint example of the rare Rice-Stix promotional pen dating from the same time. In 1935 the Rice-Stix Dry Goods Company sought to capitalize on the fame of the brothers Dean, Dizzy and Daffy, by producing shirts bearing their respective names. In conjunction with the sale of those shirts, the company produced a set of just two baseball cards, picturing Dizzy and Daffy, respectively, that were then inserted into each shirt package. Additionally, the company's salesmen where sent out into the field with a supply of Dizzy and Daffy Rice-Stix promotional pens to hand out to potential clients. The extraordinary high-grade set of Dizzy and Daffy Dean Rice-Stix cards and the Rice-Stix promotional pen offered here have been beautifully mounted together within a handsome shadowbox frame. Also included in the display is a 9 x 7-inch black-and-white photo of the two brothers posing together in uniform. The Rice-Stix card set is one of the rarest, most colorful, unusual, and highest-quality card sets of the 1930s. Few card issues of any era can compare with the beauty and production quality of Rice-Stix cards. They are often overlooked by collectors, primarily because they are so rare, but also because the set has just two cards. According to the PSA population report the Dizzy Dean card offered here is one of only six graded PSA 8 NM-MT, with none graded higher. The Paul Dean card is one of three graded PSA 8 NM-MT, with only one graded higher ("9"). The pen features small portraits of both Dizzy and Daffy in a baseball design, with "Dizzy and Paul Dean Shirts" appearing in red script letters between their portraits. Lettering around the perimeter of the baseball design reads "Sole Distributors of Dizzy and Paul Dean Shirts" in black, with the additional notation "Me and Paul" below in red script letters. Rice-Stix pens are somewhat unique in that they all feature the name of the respective salesman to whom they were issued. This particular pen bears the name of "David Eiseman" printed above the company name. Both of the cut signatures presented here are facsimile examples and have been included strictly for added visual appeal. The photo is a non-vintage print and is in Mint condition. All of the items in this display could be easily removed if so desired; however, the presentation is so stunning that we are presenting it exactly as it was presented to us. Total 3 items (two cards and pen) in a beautiful framed display. Total dimensions: 24 x 17 inches. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $7,050.00
