1934 Goudey #62 Hank Greenberg PSA NM-MT 8
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $2,643.75
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Very sharp-looking high-grade example of Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg from the classic 1934 Goudey set. This is perhaps Greenberg's most popular card, and one of the most striking cards in the entire 1934 Goudey set. "Hammerin'" Hank Greenberg was one of the greatest sluggers of the 1930s, leading the American League in home runs on four separate occasions. In 1938 he seriously challenged Ruth's single-season home-run record, only to fall short by two with 58. The previous year he drove in 183 runs, the second-best mark in American League history and third best all-time behind Gehrig (184) and Hack Wilson (190). In his six full seasons from 1934 through 1940 (he was hurt in 1936 and lost nearly five full seasons due to military service from 1941 to 1945) Greenberg averaged 39 home runs and 150 RBI. This is a beautiful card, with four sharp corners, bright colors, a flawless surface, and with an ever so slight natural diamond cut and related very slightly off-center reverse. Perfectly clean front and back, with a just hint of natural border toning, and perfect printing registration. A very attractive example of one of the great classics of 1930s bubble-gum cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $2,643.75
