1933 Blue Bird Babe Ruth PSA NM 7

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $2,350.00

Graded NM 7 by PSA. One of only four graded at this level with just one example graded higher. Extremely rare high-grade card of Babe Ruth featured in the same batting pose as the R309 Goudey Premium. It is fascinating to note that the photograph used on this card was actually cropped differently than the R309 Goudey Ruth. This advertising card (some might call it a premium) had previously been virtually unknown until a small group was discovered in 1994. Previous to that find, the only example we had ever seen was in the Halper collection. The black-and-white card (3-78 x 5-7/8 inches) is printed on thin stock and "Babe Ruth - See Other Side" appears in white letters along the bottom. The reverse of the card has advertising for Blue Bird soft drinks, and details of a glove and ball redemption program, which reads: This $3.50 Spalding Babe Ruth Professional Glove (Genuine Horse Hide and Leather-Lined) For 29 Blue Bird Bottle Caps and $1.39 - This Spalding Official League Ball (Cork Center) For 29 Blue Bird Bottle Caps and 89¢. The Blue Bird Company is still in business to this day, specializing in mixed fruit drinks, though "Bluebird" is now spelled as one word. Bright and crisp, with four razor-sharp corners, and flawless picture quality and contrast. This is a world-class solid Near Mint example, with only the slightest hint of wear to the very tips of the corners visible under high-powered magnification. If this card were in a NM-MT 8 holder, we wouldn't bat an eye. It looks like a NM-MT 8 to us. Both the front and back surfaces are perfectly crisp, clean, and free of defects. This is a simply phenomenal and very conservatively graded ultra high-grade example of one of Ruth's rarest cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $2,350.00
