1922 E121 American Caramel (Series of 120) Walter Johnson
Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $1,292.50
Graded EX 5 by PSA. One of only two examples graded at this level, with just one graded higher. E121 American Caramel (series of 120) of Walter Johnson, one of the key cards from one of the classic caramel sets of the early 1920s. Johnson is featured in full uniform in a throwing pose. When this card was issued, Johnson was one of the game's greatest legends but was still very much in his prime. E121 American Caramel cards are rarely found this sharp, especially since these cards were sold in packs of caramel to youngsters, one card per package. Bright and clean, both front and back, with strong corners with just a hint of even wear, and outstanding picture quality. There is the slightest hint of a crease in the border of the extreme upper right corner. This is an extremely attractive high-grade example of Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson, produced by American Caramel during an era in which there were very few card sets issued. The SMR is $750, which seems to us very conservative for such a rare and substantial high-grade card of Walter Johnson. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,292.50
