1921-1928 Babe Ruth Exhibit Card Collection (3)
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $4,112.50
Impressive collection of three different prewar Exhibit cards, spanning the years of 1921 to 1928, from three different sets, all featuring Hall of Famer Babe Ruth, all graded by PSA. Exhibits represent one of the great values in all of prewar cards, particularly those of Ruth. These are three very sharp-looking and rare Babe Ruth cards. 1) 1921 Exhibit Supply Co. (VG-EX 4). The key card from this set and one of Ruth's earliest cards featuring him with the Yankees. The card is bright and crisp, with no creases, and outstanding picture quality. Blank reverse. Considered by many collectors to one of Ruth’s most classic cards. 2) 1926-1929 Exhibit-Style Card (EX 5). One of only two examples graded at this level, with none graded higher. Classic Exhibit-style card was actually issued by a small competitor of the Exhibit Supply Company. The postcard format reverse includes the warning: “Not To be Used In Exhibit Machines.” Issued in several different colors, the cards of most players can be found in more than one color and some subjects have the photographic background removed. This green-tinted card with a postcard-style back has never been mailed. Crisp and clean front and back. A little corner and edge wear. 3) 1928 Exhibit Supply Co. (EX 5). One of only three examples graded at this level with just one graded higher. The key card to the 1928 Exhibit card set features Ruth in his classic follow-through swing. The blue-tinted card with a postcard-style back was produced by the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago. The lower left corner has the printed notation “Geo. H. 'Babe” Ruth' – New York, A.L.” Bright and crisp front and back. This is a very attractive collection of three high-quality cards featuring Babe Ruth from three different rare Exhibit (or Exhibit style) issues. Total 3 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
