1915 E145 Cracker Jack #88 Christy Mathewson

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,527.50

Graded VG 3 by PSA. Exceptionally attractive, bright, clean, gorgeous example of what many consider to be the most classic of all Christy Mathewson cards. This is a tremendous Very Good condition card with much stronger eye appeal than suggested by its technically accurate PSA grade. This card was obviously issued in a box of Cracker Jack in 1915 as opposed to being from a factory set. The card is centered slightly to the left (40/60 left to right), with outstanding color, an extremely bold red background, and even wear to the corners. If not for the light diagonal crease in the lower left and upper right corners, we believe this card would grade a solid VG-EX 4. The card has an Excellent appearance at a glance, and would be a very welcome addition to any high-quality collection of Cracker Jack, Christy Mathewson, or Hall of Fame cards. This is a very rarely offered and extremely desirable grade for this classic card, providing a relatively affordable alternative to a far more expensive super high-grade example, without compromising on all of the most important qualities of the card. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,527.50
