1888 N28 Allen & Ginter Graded Collection (19) + N29 (1)

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,997.50

Collection of nineteen different of the fifty cards comprising the N28 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" set, including three of the ten baseball players: Hall of Famers John Clarkson, Mike Kelly, and Tim Keefe. N28 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" is considered by many to be the most beautiful of all nineteenth-century tobacco-card issues. The set features champions and stars of the day from a wide variety of sports. All nineteen cards have been graded and encapsulated by PSA, SGC, or GAI. Twelve cards range from Vg-Ex to Excellent condition. The remaining seven cards are in lesser grades (ranging from Fair to Vg condition). Comprised of the following: Bubear (oarsman, SGC VG/EX 50), John Clarkson (baseball, SGC GOOD 30, nice looking card from the front with a few tiny ink marks on the back), Gaudaur (oarsman, SGC EX 60), Hamm (oarsman, SGC VG/EX 50), Hanlan (oarsman, SGC VG/EX 50), Hosmer (oarsman, SGC GOOD 30), Tim Keefe (baseball, GAI Fair 1.5, bright and crisp from the front with paper loss on reverse, holder has crack in the upper left), Mike Kelly (baseball, GAI Fair 1.5, solid Vg card downgraded for ink marks on front and back), McAuliffe (pugilist, SGC VG/EX 50), McKay (oarsman, SGC VG/EX 50), McLaughlin (wrestler, SGC VG/EX 50), McMahon (wrestler, SGC EX 60), Muldoon (wrestler, SGC GOOD 30), Ross (oarsman, SGC VG/EX 50), Slosson (billiards, PSA EX 5), Smith (pugilist, SGC VG 40), Sorakichi (wrestler, PSA VG 3), Teemer (oarsman, SGC EX 60), and Trickett (oarsman, SGC VG/EX 50). This is a magnificent collection of one of card collecting's most classic issues. These nineteen cards represent an ideal start for the building of an entirely graded N28 Allen & Ginter set. Also included is an N29 Allen & Ginter of James Ryan (baseball, PSA VG 3, bright and crisp, with corner wear and a few light creases in the background area surrounding the image). Total 20 cards (nineteen N28s and one N29). Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,997.50
