1888 N173 Goodwin Old Judge Cabinet Card - Paul Radford, Brooklyn
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,643.75
Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. Presented is an extremely high-grade N173 Old Judge cabinet card of Brooklyn outfielder Paul Radford (catching pose). Radford was actually something of a mercenary in the baseball world, playing with nine different teams over his twelve-season career, jumping from team to team as his services were needed, in search of the highest pay. He was very versatile in the field, which no doubt increased his value to teams in need of a qualified player at a particular position. He was able to play all field positions except catcher, and was even able to pitch if needed. His best offensive season was with the 1890 Cleveland Infants of the Players League, when he hit .292. This is a stunning high-grade example, with flawless contrast, and with tremendous detail. Perfectly clean on the front and back, with an unimprovable image. Extraordinarily bold and crisp. This is an extremely striking sample card from this rare nineteenth-century issue. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,643.75
