1911 T3 Turkey Red #9 Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $1,500.00 , Sold For - $7,050.00

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Presented is an extremely attractive T3 of Ty Cobb, one of vintage-card collecting's most recognizable icons and the key card of the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cabinet card series. Turkey Reds are considered by many to be the most beautiful and well-made tobacco set ever issued. Cobb is not just the most valuable card in the set, it also one of the best known and popular of all Ty Cobb cards. This example is bright and clean, both front and back (checklist style reverse), with bold colors, evenly rounded corners, and perfect centering. There is the hint of a very small lighted area on the top border (not easily seen except under extremely close examination in proper light and angle) and a hint of border shading along the right and top borders, a quality which is a common characteristic of the T3 set. T3s rarely survive without serious condition problems (ranging from major creases, stains, and chipped corners, to pin holes and glue stains relating to their former display, as intended). This is a very attractive example of card #9 Ty Cobb from the classic Turkey Red set, a card which has always and will always be in high demand. The image of Cobb is totally unblemished and without flaws. No wear, no scrapes, no creases, no stains! The card has been downgraded due to corner rounding but the image area, which naturally gives this card its extraordinary display value, is Nr/Mt-Mt. This card represents a relatively affordable alternative to a far more expensive higher-grade example without compromising on any of the most important display value qualities of the card. This is an impressive example of one of card collecting’s most classic cards, in an extremely desirable grade, and representing a tremendous value compared to a higher-grade example. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $7,500. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000+. SOLD FOR $7,050.00
