1911 T201 Mecca Double Folders Ty Cobb/Sam Crawford

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $3,525.00

Graded EX 5 by PSA. A very sharp high-grade example of the key card from the classic T201 Mecca Double Folders set featuring Hall of Famers Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford of the Detroit Tigers. T201 Double Folders are one of the most condition-sensitive of all tobacco-card issues. The thin stock on which they are printed makes them especially susceptible to soft corners as well as to very slight wrinkles, creases, and edge wear. These cards were designed to be played with, folded up and down, so it is not surprising that normal handling would result in few truly high-grade examples surviving. This is a remarkably high grade example of the key card in the set. It is bright and clean, with fresh colors, not a hint of creasing anywhere, beautifully centered, and with four square corners. PSA grades T201s very harshly, and these cards tend to look a lot better in person than the assigned grades suggest. This is a magnificent example that would be a worthy addition to any high-grade Ty Cobb or prewar-card collection. SMR value for the assigned grade is $2,300. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,525.00
