1888 N173 Goodwin Old Judge Cabinet Mickey Welch
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $9,987.50
Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. 1888 N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet card of Hall of Famer “Smiling” Mickey Welch of the New York Giants (pitching, right arm back). This is a stunning high-grade Hall of Famer example from one of the nineteenth century's most revered sets. Bright, clean, and crisp. All Old Judge cabinets are extremely desirable, especially Hall of Famers, and Mickey Welch, of course, is one of the most prominent of all nineteenth-century Hall of Famers. This card has an 1888 copyright date. That year marked the Giants first pennant, as Welch and teammate Tim Keefe accounted for 61 of the team's 84 victories. The image on the card is very bold with strong contrast. The photograph is in Excellent to Mint condition. The cabinet card mount has virtually no corner or edge wear. This extremely high-grade example is one of a recent exciting find of four N173s, all new to the hobby, which miraculously included three Hall of Famers, all consigned to this auction. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $9,987.50
