1910 E104-1 Nadja Caramels Philadelphia Athletics Near-Complete Set (11/18)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $4,700.00

Presented is an extraordinary near-complete set of 1910 E104-1 Nadja Caramel Athletics, comprised of eleven different of the eighteen cards in the set (missing only Baker, Dygert, Lapp, Livingstone, Lord, Plank, and Strunk for completion), all graded by SGC (three graded by PSA), including key Hall of Famer Connie Mack. E104-1 Nadja Caramels are among the rarest of all twentieth-century caramel issues. Produced to commemorate the Athletics’ 1910 Championship season, the 18-card set features Philadelphia Athletics exclusively. The cards measure 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 inches, which is the standard size for tobacco issues. They are nearly identical to D359 Rochester/Williams Baking, and another related set of legendary rarity, T208 Fireside Tobacco. Each of these cards has been graded and encapsulated by SGC (except three by PSA, as noted): Barry (VG 40), Chief Bender (PSA PR-FR 1 [MK], flawless image set against a bold red background, presentable low-grade example), Eddie Collins (POOR 10, striking red background, perfect registration, heavy creases, tape and pencil notation on back), Davis (GOOD 30), Hartsel (VG 40), Krause (PSA GOOD 2), Connie Mack (FAIR 20, bright and clean, with a deep green background and crisp, perfect image. The corners are evenly rounded and there are a few creases, which have no impact on the exceptional eye appeal), Morgan (GOOD 30), Murphy (GOOD 30), Oldring (GOOD 30), and Thomas (PSA VG 3 [MC], qualifier due to a slight factory miscut causing the bottom of player and team identification lettering to be cut off). All eleven cards are the plain portrait variation (each player can also be found with an overprint of a white elephant and the notation “World’s Champions 1910” on front) with blank backs (also issued with Nadja ad). It is very rare to find such a large collection of these extremely rare and distinctive "E" cards featuring members of the World Champion 1910 Philadelphia Athletics. Total 11 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,700.00
