1909-1911 E90-1 American Caramel Cy Young - Boston
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $4,112.50
Graded EX 60 by SGC. Extremely high-grade example featuring a striking portrait of Hall of Famer Cy Young from the E90-1 American Caramel series. This would be a gem in terms of condition for any vintage card, but for a caramel card, the SGC EX 60 grade is all the more impressive. This is easily one of the most popular and classic of all cards of the legendary Cy Young. This is also one of the most striking cards in the E90-1 American Caramel set. Bright and clean, both front and back, with a bold red background, centered slightly to the right (60/40), with just a hint of light even wear to the corners, and with perfect registration. The back is flawless with bold black print. This is a beautiful card. It looks Ex+ to Ex-Mt to our eye. Because the card has print lines along the bottom, we even called SGC to find out if they downgrade E90-1s for this. E90-1s occasionally have print lines, which we and most collectors find to be very desirable. We were told by SGC that until fairly recently E90-1s with printer lines were modestly downgraded, but since feedback indicated that most collectors find this to be a positive, they no longer do so. We're not sure if this card has been downgraded due to the print lines, but either way this is a particularly exceptional and very conservatively graded example of one of the most classic Cy Young cards from the most popular caramel-card set of the era. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $4,112.50
