1909 E92 Croft's Candy Honus Wagner
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,937.50
Graded VG 40 by SGC. This rare Croft's Candy caramel issue from 1909 shares designs with several other closely related candy issues (Dockman & Sons, Nadja Caramels, etc.) from the same era. The offered example of Hall of Famer Honus Wagner (throwing pose) is a very attractive example. Bright and clean, with vibrant colors, no creases, and centered to the right approximately 80/20. The back is also bright and clean, with bold text. The centering (which is often an issue with Croft's Candy cards anyway) appears to be the only factor keeping this impressive card from receiving a grade of Vg-Ex. Caramel cards in general are much rarer than tobacco cards of the era. Because they were issued with caramels one card per package and sold to children (as opposed to being sold to adults with tobacco), they also tend to survive in a much lower grade. This is an extremely strong Vg example of the legendary Honus Wagner from this rare, early twentieth-century candy issue, dating from the height of Wagner's career and issued at the same time as Wagner's famous T206 tobacco card. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,937.50
