1909 T204 Ramly Tobacco Jesse Burkett - T.T.T. Advertisement
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $4,406.25
Graded VG 40 by SGC. Presented is a classic portrait image of Hall of Famer Jesse Burkett with an extremely rare T.T.T. back from the prized T204 Ramly series. This is one of two T.T.T. backs that were among the highlights of an original-owner collection of forty-six Ramlys that have never before been seen in the organized collecting world, and which are presented in several lots in this auction. Jesse Burkett is one of only fifteen Hall of Famers in the Ramly Tobacco set. All T.T.T. backs are great rarities, but this card is particularly noteworthy because it features key Hall of Famer Jesse Burkett, one of the most desirable cards in the set. Burkett's career spanned sixteen years (1890-1905). During his career he batted over .400 three times, a feat duplicated only by Ty Cobb and Rogers Hornsby. After leaving the major leagues, Burkett owned and managed the Worcester club of the New England League (the team with which he is featured on this card), from 1906 to 1913, making regular appearances in the outfield until he was 45. The card has evenly rounded corners and a little edge wear. It is a very pleasing example for the grade. The portrait is crystal-clear, and both the front and back are clean. His T204 Ramly is considered by many to be Burkett's most majestic card. This is a very attractive mid-grade example of one of the most important cards from this beautiful and extremely condition-sensitive set, with the added feature of having the extremely rare T.T.T. advertising back. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $4,406.25
