1909-1911 Christy Mathewson PSA-Graded Tobacco-Card Collection (3)

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,175.00

Three classic 1910-era tobacco cards of Christy Mathewson, each graded and encapsulated VG 3 by PSA. 1) T205 Gold Borders Christy Mathewson: Beautiful example which has an Excellent appearance, but has been very harshly graded and qualified (MC) by PSA due to a factory miscut (large top border, small bottom border). The factory miscut is also apparent on the reverse (reverse is centered 100/0 top to bottom). It is very rare to find any T205 with so little wear to the gold borders (this card has just a hint, primarily in the upper left and bottom right corners). Mathewson’s portrait is crisp and clean, and the card is free of all creases and stains. For the modest grade, this is a particularly great looking card. Hassan ad on back. 2) T206 White Borders Christy Mathewson (dark cap): Bright and clean, both front and back, with vibrant colors, even wear to the corners, and centered slightly to the top. There is a very light horizontal crease (barely detectable and more easily seen from the reverse) just above the “NY” logo on his left sleeve. Sweet Caporal advertisement on the back. 3) T206 White Borders Christy Mathewson (portrait): One of Mathewson’s most striking and recognizable cards from the premier 1910-era tobacco-card set. This crease-free example is perfectly clean, front and back, and displays bold, rich colors, and has evenly rounded corners. Centered 40/60 L/R and T/B. Sovereign advertisement on the reverse. Three very attractive conservatively graded Christy Mathewson tobacco cards, each a classic, and each an exceptionally strong and attractive example. This is a great-looking group. Total 3 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
