1909-1911 T206 White Borders Collection Including Lajoie Color Printing Error (171)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $5,875.00

Collection of 171 different T206 White Border cards highlighted by twenty-five Hall of Famers, including two Ty Cobbs, two Christy Mathewsons, and key cards such as the rare Brown/Wash. variation and twenty-one scarce Southern Leaguers. The Lajoie portrait card is particularly interesting as it a very striking color variation that appears to have never had the yellow printing added and may have long ago been cut from a sheet. The background on this card is largely white as opposed to bright yellow as normally seen. Almost all the cards in this collection, at first glance, present as Vg-Ex or better condition overall, but upon very close inspection we have determined that almost every card has been slightly trimmed along one or more of the edges. This is very subtle on most cards. The following grades refer to appearance only and are without reference to trimming: Beckley (Gd), Bender/no trees (Vg-Ex), Bender/port. (no top border, otherwise Ex), Brown/Wash. (Fr), Chance/bat (Pr), Chance/red (Fr), Chase/pink (Gd), Chesbro (Gd), Clarke/port. (Gd), Cobb/green (Vg), Cobb/red (SGC Authentic), Duffy (Ex, Sovereign back), Evers/Cubs (Gd-Vg), Flick (miscut along the bottom, otherwise Ex), Griffith/bat (Gd), Griffith/port. (Vg), Jennings/two hands (Fr), Jennings/port. (Ex, Sovereign back), Johnson/port. (Pr), Keeler/bat (Gd), Lajoie/port. (Nr/Mt), Mathewson/port. (Vg), Mathewson/dark cap (Ex), Waddell/port. (Ex), Waddell/throwing (Vg, Sovereign back), Willis/port. (Gd-Vg), and Willis/bat (Gd-Vg). T206s are one of the most significant and substantial issues of the era, and are extremely desirable in any condition, even subtly trimmed. This collection represents an extraordinary value and a unique opportunity for the collector who wants beautiful original ungraded examples of these classics, at a far more affordable level than graded examples with a similar appearance. Total 171 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $5,875.00
