1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Wiley Piatt

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $1,527.50

Graded VG 3 by PSA. E107 Breisch-Williams series card featuring pitcher Wiley Piatt of the Boston Braves of the National League. Piatt earned his nickname “Iron Man” in 1903, his final season, by pitching two complete games on June 25 for the Braves. His entire career spanned only six seasons. He broke in with two impressive seasons with the Phillies, winning 24 games in 1898 and 23 in 1899. It is interesting to note that Piatt is featured in his Chicago uniform from the prior year (he was with Chicago in 1902) but is identified on the bottom of the card as pitcher of the Boston Nationals. Bright and crisp, with no creases, evenly rounded corners, and a clean blank back. This is an extremely rare medium-grade example from one of card collecting's most significant sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,527.50
