1957-1967 Non-Sport Cartoon, Humor, and Parody Theme Complete Sets Collection (19 sets, 950 cards)

From the late 1950s through the 1960s, cards with designs spoofing valentines, monsters and even comic book heroes, with the irreverent and humorous sensibility of Mad Magazine , were extremely popular on playgrounds throughout the country. Many were illustrated by top artists who also did work for Mad , such as Jack Davis. This outstanding collection of nineteen complete (and near-complete) sets represents seventeen different quality issues from 1959 to 1967, including many scarce and rare sets: 1-2) 1959 Topps “Funny Valentine” two complete sets (66 cards each for a total of 132): Both sets grade 85% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 15% Ex. 3) 1959 Topps “You’ll Die Laughing” complete set (66): 90% Ex to Ex-Mt, 10% slightly lesser. 4) 1960 Fleer “Yule Laff” complete set (66): 98% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 2% lesser. 5-6) 1960 Topps “Funny Valentine A” two complete sets (66 cards each for a total of 132): Both sets grade 90% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 10% Ex. 7) 1961 Donruss “Idiot Cards” complete set (66): The first Donruss set ever issued. 80% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 20% Ex. 8) 1961 Nu-Card “Horror Monsters” complete set (79): Orange series (#67-146). 85% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 15% lesser (mostly Ex). 9) 1961 Topps "Funny Valentines" Giant Size near-complete set (49 of 55): 70% grades Ex to Nr/Mt (averaging Ex-Mt), 30% lesser. Missing six cards for completion: #11, 13, 16, 23, 44, and 50. 10) 1965 Fleer “Weird-ohs” complete set (66): 20% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 80% Ex to Ex-Mt. 11) 1965 Topps “Monster Greeting Cards” complete set (50): 65% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 35% Ex. 12) 1966 Topps “Comic Book Foldees” near-complete Set (40 of 44): 80% grades Ex to Nr/Mt (averaging Ex-Mt), 20% lesser. Missing four cards for completion: #1, 3, 16, and 23. 13) 1966 Topps “Funny Rings” complete set (set of 24 plus rare checklist): 90% Ex to Ex-Mt (with a few Nr/Mt), 10% slightly lesser. Rare checklist grades Ex-Mt. These were issued as inserts in packs of 1966 Topps Football cards. They are considered very scarce. The card fronts feature a ring that can be punched out and assembled. The backs are blank. 14) 1966 Topps “Insult Postcards” complete set (32): Grades Vg to Vg-Ex (with a couple Ex). 15) 1966 Topps “Monster Laffs” complete set (66): 80% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 20% Ex-Mt. 16) 1967 Topps “Dopey Books” near-complete set (40 of 42): 90% Ex to Ex-Mt (with a couple Nr/Mt), 10% Vg-Ex. Missing #16 and 41. 17) 1967 Topps “Funny Travel Posters” complete set (24): 90% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 10% lesser. 18) 1967 Topps “Krazy Little Comics” complete set (16): Rare test issue of sixteen comics (booklets) each having eight pages. 19) 1960s “Krazy Cards” complete set (66): 90% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 10% Ex. Also included is one 1960s Topps “Wise Ties” single of the tie “Get Lost.” This rare test series of twelve was issued in gumless paper envelopes for 10 cents each. This is an extraordinary collection of nineteen complete non-sport sets plus one single, with numerous highlights, and including many of the most popular non-sport sets issued in the 1960s, assembled over a twenty-year span by a longtime advanced collector.
